Don't Let a Day Go by Without Hebrew
The great thing about learning the days of the week in Hebrew is that the word for each of the first six days is also the word for their numerical order. This means that, for example, the word for Sunday (ראשון Rishon), also means "first". Take a look at the table below:
DAY IN ENGLISH | DAY IN HEBREW | IT ALSO MEANS |
---|---|---|
Sunday | Rishon ראשון | First |
Monday | Sheni שני | Second |
Tuesday | Shlishi שלישי | Third |
Wednesday | Revi'i רביעי | Fourth |
Thursday | Chamishi חמישי | Fifth |
Friday | Shishi שישי | Sixth |
Saturday | Shabbat שבת | Shabbat means "to stop", as it's a day of rest in Israel and in Jewish life. |
Got it? Sunday to Friday is simply the Hebrew words from first to sixth, so every word you learn and remember — is actually two! You see how simple and intuitive Hebrew can be? Although it's a rich language with words that are both amazingly ancient AND inventively modern, learning it is easier than you might think. Just give it a go with Rosen and see for yourself. And remember… there's no day like today!
