A good Israeli salad starts with good, fresh ingredients. We will make a dish that's a part of almost every meal in Israel: Salat Yerakot (סָלָט יְרָקוֹת) - a vegetable salad, finely chopped and full of flavor. What you'll need is:
| English | Transliteration | Hebrew |
| 1 Cucumber | Melafefon | מְלָפְפוֹן |
| 1 Tomato | Agvania | עַגְבָנִיָּה |
| 1 Red pepper | Pilpel adom | פִּלְפֵּל אָדֹם |
| 1/2 Onion | Batzal | בָּצָל |
| Lemon | Limon | לִימוֹן |
| Olive Oil | Shemen Zayit | שֶׁמֶן זַיִת |
| Salt | Melach | מֶלַח |
| Black pepper | Pilpel Shachor | ִפִּלְפֵּל שָׁחֹר |

Now that you have what you need all you have to do is Liktzoz (לִקְצֹץ), to chop the vegetables, Le’arbev (לְעַרְבֵּב) to mix it all in a bowl, Le’hosif (לְהוֹסִיף) to add a teaspoon of lemon juice, a few drops of olive oil and some salt and pepper. You'll see these verbs in every recipe, so now you can tackle them all with confidence!

You have the ingredients, you know what to do, now it's all up to you! Salat Yerakot is a very simple and popular dish in Israel, especially for breakfast.
