Why is Hebrew written from Right to Left?

Hebrew writing was created by chiseling on stone. Because most people were right-handed, the direction of writing was from right to left. The drafting of the letters was done from top to bottom. Aleph is one of the hardest letters to draw, but if you use this method, you will learn to write the letter properly almost immediately. Here are my tricks to help students remember how to write the first letter in Hebrew Alphabet.

The Story Behind the First Letter א- aleph- אלף

The words אני-ani (I) and אבא-aba (father) remind us that the letter Aleph is connected to the sound "ah". You can say that the letter Aleph is like: me (ani-אני) standing on the beam, and father (aba-אבא) is holding it from below. You begin writing the letter by drawing the beam, from top to bottom, then the child (short line), and then the father (long line).
