It is now 11 AM, and students from all over the world come together to take part in my Hebrew beginner’s class. Richard from South Africa and Mishack from Botswana both study from home.
Freya from Germany, who volunteers in Israel, connects from her office in the city of Sderot. Sally from the Netherlands vacations in Tel Aviv and joins in from her hostel.
And what about different time zones? For my Brazilian student, it is 6 AM, and he just finished the night shift. For Bo from Sweden, a retired physician who also dreams of knowing Hebrew, it’s noon– and he’s studying Hebrew through lunch.
